Filipino women are accused in general as "prostitutes" or "whores".
Please find attached hate letter wrote by certain American Art Bell. What do you think?
Eric V. Encina's colleague in Aklan province, Mr. Roman de la Cruz, already bed-ridden and suffering diseases and stroke, a fighter for justice penned his poem: "The Village" which is meant to symbolize the Philippines or the Filipino womanhood. Please read and let me know what you think.
I suggest that before you read the poem, please read first the attached hate letter against Filipino people.
Thank you.
THE VILLAGE
Time was when the village at morning sunrise
Look beautiful in comely mood,
When the sun glinted at her hills and meadows,
Demure and chaste - a picture of pulchritude.
Her streams were clear and limpid;
(In the heart of our viewer pure joy and peace)
Where the pliant reeds in hilltops
Bow with grace before the breeze.
And white horses pranced in the moonlight
To the sweet tune of guitar strain
And the fair maids swooned in rapture
As the swains sang their love's refrain.
She was a beauty told far and wide
A Shangri-La amid a barren zone.
She was an epitome of all
The mind can think of - as virtues known.
But ill winds came from out the blue:
The whine of bullets, the smoke and the sword.
The villagers were driven, and the vale untended,
The land was trampled by alien horde.
And when peace returned, then hunger loomed high.
The land had to be broken bu tillers' tools
To eke out a living from once lovely vale
And drive the wolf and starve the wiles of fools.
And the village was disemboweled when the strangers offered
To search the place for embedded gold.
They turned the land into shambles
And, out of need, the soul of the village was sold.
Weep now for the passing of pristine joy
Once warned by the sun and cooled by the breeze.
Mourn now for the priceless virtue irretrievably lost:
A tarnished name, a shameful face.
Roman de la Cruz
This poem is addressed to all people in the world to mend up the belief on the Filipino prostitutes. This is a persecution against Filipino women.
Filipino prostitution is a forceful result of economic enslavements and enormous monetary injustice in the Philippines and in the world. Filipino women unintentionally become, in difficult circumstances, prostitutes by nasty economic circumtances under the unfair and the savage cruelty of debt money system. Yes, it is reportedly there are 700,000 Filipino prostitutes both here and abroad but this is because of economic problems and monetary pressures for survival. But the very truth is that, not all Filipino women are prostitutes. The accusation of generalised prostitution of Filipino women is a kind of ignorance, a prejudice, an injury - an ADDED MILLSTONE to the sufferings of Filipinos under the present infinitely unjust financial-economic system. This is slander against Filipino people in general.
We are fighting for the rights of women, mothers, families as part of our fights for alternative solutions for sustainable survival in the Philippines. We have hope to towards the liberation from the curse of poverty in the hope by the act and will of God.
Should you have any comments, please send to me directly.
Thank you for reading.
Sincerely yours,
Eric V. Encina
