Dear All, 1. I hope that everybody is signing the petition to prevent the detention and torture of Dr. Alamgir who is a splendid worker for decency and justice in the world. Thanks to Norm for generally alerting us. The facts are amplified by Amnesty International at http://www.bangladeshpolitics.com. The Amnesty appeal is posted on http://www.stoptorture.org/urgent/index.php. There is more information at http://www.banglapolitics.com/ 2. I have not been participating in any of the COG groups since the end of last September when, returning to London on a flight from New York, I was taken ill, the plane was turned round and I ended up in hospital in Gander, Newfoundland (which I had always wanted to visit because, during the Second World War, it was a major departure point for men, armaments and, for children like myself, magic parcels of goodies and, indeed, practical things like warm clothing for which, decades later, I express my thanks). For a several weeks afterwards, I felt generally weak and, upon recovering, from then on I had to concentrate on writing (with Peter Challen) the book -- Seven Steps To Justice -- and, as a consequence, several organisations have asked for various papers to be written. You may remember that in the Monetary Reform Group there was an inchoate paper called Four Demands. Well, it became Five Demands and finally ended up as Seven Steps To Justice. The book is with the publishers (New European Publications) and I am not quite sure of what is the present state-of-play but there is an intent to get it published by July particularly in time for an August conference. In a day or two I hope to be able to give you some information as to how the Seven Steps have developed and what are the implications in the monetary reform area. Don't forget -- sign that Amnesty petition for Dr. Alamgir. Rodney Shakespeare.
