Dear Homesteaders: To participate in the Tuesday, January 25, 2000 5:00 PM New York Time meeting of the HOMESTEAD Discussion Group: 1. Connect to the internet with a browser like netscape or internet explorer. 2. Go to: http://cog.kent.edu/chat 3. Select "Homestead" 4. Wait. If you have a slow connection, this may be a long wait. With a quick connection it can be 10 to 20 seconds. 5. A box will appear with the options to write your nickname, username, email. You ONLY need to write a nickname. Anything you want. 6. Select "CONNECT" 7. A chat window will open with a line at the bottom where you can write your messages. In the window above, you will see what you and others have written. On the right side, there will be a list of all the others who are connected to the chat. 8. Write your message and hit enter. It will appear in the chat. 9. Sometimes you may get bounced off. If so, simply repeat steps 2 to 6 again. Good luck! Following is the proposed agenda reprinted from a recent email to all of you. Regarding the agenda, I am open to your suggestions. I would like to see us cover the following: 1) An explanation from Bob Stumberg of his critique of SQPQ and how he would change SQPQ to be useful. 2) Proposals of a structured agenda to review the policy ideas each of us favors. I don't propose that we review all the proposals during this meeting. Rather, that we come up with a system for reviewing ideas using a strategic planning format. I would like us to aim for a productive meeting in Chicago in April. The outcome of that meeting would be a research and development agenda for COG on new policy ideas. The strategic planning format includes initial brainstorming (which we are doing in a rather random way now in the discussion group). The brainstorming is followed by looking at the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats posed by each idea. The purpose of this process is to provide the COG Executive Committee, staff and participants with our view on ideas and projects we think COG should pursue via research and experimentation. Individuals proposing specific ideas would be the best equipped to lead the session(s) on his/ her ideas. 3) Briefly list the variety of ideas we are considering so far, particularly any I missed in my summary of the Homestead discussions so far. 4) Discuss means of increasing participation in the Homestead discussion. 5) Other Deb Olson Homestead Moderator http://cog.kent.edu Deborah Groban Olson Project Co-ordinator Capital Ownership Group Project Ohio Employee Ownership Center Kent State University c/o Shared Equity Strategies, Inc. 3163 Penobscot Building Detroit, MI 48226 (313) 331-7821 or (313) 964-2460 (f) (313) 331-2567 email: dgo@esoplaw.com web site: http://cog.kent.edu
