Week in Review Sun. 9/24/00 NY Times re: Globalization and EO
Dear EO Trans Folks:
Please see
the Sunday 9/24/00 NY Times Week in Review Section article
called " Growing Up and Getting Practical Since Seattle". Note
particularly the last 4 paragraphs of the article on p. 16. "
Officials seem convinced that beyond debt relief, an enormous effort must
now be made to give more people the basic tools to benefit from a global
economy: education ... encouragement for the stock ownership that alone
will Sprad Americas brand of popular capitalism, in which even blue
collar workers benefit from investing."
1)
There are apparently a myriad of organizations dealing with the ill
effects of globalization. We need to contact them and bring them into our
network. Please email me any information you have about any of these
organizations, and/or please contact them yourself to bring them into our
discussion.
2) How can
we get into the discussions Wolfson of the World Bank is having w/ NGO's
about what to do on these problems.
3) Who is
John D. Clark, quoted in this article as on leave from the World Bank? Do
any of us know him.? Can we get him into our discussion?
4) Do any
of you know Roger Cohen, who wrote this for the NY Times? When I have
time I plan to call him to find out what connections he might help us
make. Is someone else in a better situation to do this?
Thanks,
Deb
