[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] Kudos for your work and mention of Kelso
Dear Don Jamison, Congratulations for getting funds for your Vermont Employee Ownership Center. Perhaps the Green Mountain State will be the launchpad for the Second American Revolution. It's going to happen somewhere and why not Vermont. I was impressed that you mentioned Kelso and his first book with Mortimer Adler. While Kelso deserves enormous credit for inventing the ESOP, his vision was far broader than ownership for workers, as you will see from reading his first two books with Mortimer Adler, especially Chapter 5 on "Economic Rights and Economic Justice." You can download both books free in Adobe Acrobat (pdf) format from the web site of the Kelso Institute at http://www.kelsoinstitute.org. I suggest you start by reading the Preface by Adler and then Chapter 5 of "The Capitalist Manifesto." For a matrix comparing the traditional capitalism (a term Kelso and Adler should have avoided), traditional socialism, and what some of us call the "Just Third Way", please click on http://www.cesj.org/thirdway/comparison3rdway.htm. I'd be interested in whether you think it is useful in selling your philosophy to Vermonters across the ideological spectrum. Since you mention Senator Long's support of Kelso's ideas, you might also be interested in the history behind that meeting. Please click on http://www.cesj.org/thirdway/history3rd/kelsomeetslong.htm This background may also help you in your work.
