Why EO in Privatisation

Dear EO Privers

Yes the problem is a case of ignorance (Shann Turnbull) by the workers and their Organisations, but how do address that. The fact that they are only interested in things that are affecting them personally at the time is quite relevant and is in fact the case in the UK. The National Leaders were not directly involved and so showed no initiative or interest towards EO, they say their role as opposing Privatisation to the end and beyond. However the local leaders who were faced with the reality Privatisation we in fact the first ones to look at EO as a credible alliterative to the rages of raw capitalism. As you rightly say this put them behind the employers in many cases and the Deals were all but done before the workers became involved and able to influence anything.

The fact is though the National Leaders have an immediate interest, as in the UK  2.25 million workers are employee shareholders and 350,000 of these are Union Members. Funny then that TUs promote all kinds of other financial services for it's members like Credit Cards, Pensions, Banking Services, etc. but totally ignore Shareholding and EO (see attachment)

However in the UK the workers who remained in work on the whole did alright out of the deals even if only in capital gains (reference to Debs comments from Homesteaders) as apposed to some of the Eastern European Counties.

Privatisation in the UK has all but come to a standstill now, firstly because there is not much left to privatise and secondly the political shift from the Thatcher to the Blair era and the shift in public opinion against any further moves.

In the UK at the moment I see the movement has 3 practical objectives.

1.    To promote other sources of EO namely Retiring Owners using the experiences and lessons of the past
2. To get TUs to publicise and promote EO in the light of my paper (attached) as it does with other financial services.
3.    Start winning the debate that a company with EO (and other factors) is a better company all round than one without EO.
